2026 At large board member: Alessandro Corda

I am an Italian scholar based at Queen’s University Belfast in the United Kingdom, where I served as Director of the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice from 2021 to 2024.

My research focuses on the collateral consequences of criminal justice involvement, the sociology of punishment, and comparative penal policies and practices, areas I’ve explored through a transnational academic journey that includes many years of study and work in the United States and collaborations with several academic institutions across Europe.

The ESC has been my intellectual home for well over a decade. I’ve always deeply appreciated its unique combination of diversity and cohesion, and I’ve found in it a space where rigorous scholarship and genuine collegiality flourish. Over the years, I’ve been actively involved in the Society, most notably as co-founder and co-chair of the Working Group on the Collateral Consequences of Criminal Records, launched at the ESC conference in Ghent in 2019. Through this role, I’ve helped build a vibrant community of scholars working on issues that are often overlooked but have a profound impact on the lives of those affected by the operation of criminal legal systems.

If elected to the Board, I would bring a collaborative and collegial approach, together with a commitment to fostering connections across research areas, countries, and career stages. I am particularly keen to contribute to the development of the ESC Summer School and other initiatives that support knowledge exchange, professional development, and the engagement of early-career scholars. I believe in listening carefully, encouraging open dialogue, and helping to create opportunities through which our community can continue to grow and thrive.
