Programme Development & Delivery Manager, The Hardman Trust
London/working from home, United Kingdom Full time
- Placed on: 19 Sep 2023
- Closes: 19 Oct 2023
The Hardman Trust is the only UK charity focused specifically on the needs of people on long-term prison sentences. We are looking for a (Home Based / Hybrid) Programme Development and Delivery Manager to help us create a new package of support for people as they prepare for their life after prison.
With 30 years' experience working in this area, The Hardman Trust are launching a new strategy, with an increased focus on support pre-release and back in the community. We are seeking somebody with experience running or working on programmes in a prison setting - this could be IAG services, voluntary or charity work, peer mentoring programmes, education, substance misuse, or other projects and services. Alternatively, you may have been a prison officer, learning and skills manager, or other operational role. Perhaps your experience sits in the community, supporting people on probation or the broader criminal justice sector. What's important to us is that you know how prisons work, and you can come up with ideas around how our new programme could fit within often-complex prison settings.
We are also looking for someone who can work autonomously: the ability to be proactive, think independently, and lead the project. Whist working independently, you will benefit from the support of our close-knit team ,with regular face-to-face team meetings and online check-ins.
Ideally, you'd have some experience of programme delivery or development. You'll have the opportunity to design the support programme from scratch, test different models to find out what works, and implement the preferred approach across prisons in the Greater London area. Our ambition is to then scale the preferred model across the prison estate in England, Wales and Scotland - with you taking the lead.
The programme intends to support people to plan and prepare for their life after prison, in the months leading up to their release. This support will be tailored to the individual - their skills, assets, interests, requirements, and opportunities. We then offer the practical and financial support to turn this plan into a reality. This could be paying for tools or equipment, the cost of travel, or a training course. Each person is then given ongoing support post-release, to help them stay on track. We are keen to test models that include volunteers, peer mentors, 1-1 work, group support and self-led learning.
We're a small team of 5 staff and 30+ volunteers, working remotely from all over of the UK. You will be home-based, but with frequent (weekly) travel to London / South East prisons in order to set up and implement the programme. All home-working equipment will be supplied, but if home working is not possible for your personal circumstances (e.g. if you are a carer, or have limited home-working space), we also offer the opportunity to work from our Waterloo office.
We offer employee perks such as days off for your birthday and moving house, and a wellbeing afternoon on 'World Mental Health Day'.
If you're excited by the challenge, are passionate about reintegration, and have your heart in building programmes that make a difference, we would like to hear from you.
